The heavy-duty perforated steel canister contains 750 grams of silica gel to protect your valuables from condensation and to stop rust, mildew, corrosion, and spoilage. The 4" x 6" unit protects 57 cubic feet of enclosed space. A built-in indicator turns from blue to pink to signal it has reached its maximum moisture saturation level. Once that level has been reached, the unit can easily be recharged in any conventional oven. The units can be recharged as often as needed for lifetime protection. Silica gel is inert and non-toxic. Will not emit harmful vapors, stain, or cause chemical reaction. Safe to use with sensitive materials.

Q. Can I reuse silica gel?

A. All of our "Rechargeable" Silica gel packs can be reused after drying. We also sell "One Time Use" Silica gel packs that cannot be reused. The packaging type dictates whether drying is practical or not.

Q. How do I recharge the silica gel?

A. If you have purchased the "Rechargeable" Silica Gel Packages in either a 200, 450 or 900 gram size, they are sold in cardboard boxes that can be reactivated by removing the inner pouch and placing it in your home oven at 240 degrees for a minimum of 3 hours. The 40 and 750 gram size metal canister cans must NOT be opened before recharging. Simply place the items in a 240 degree oven for at least 3 hours. Multiple units may be dried at one time. Sorb-It Silica Gel packs cannot be recharged.

Q. How many times can I reuse the rechargeable silica gel packages?

A. Indefinitely.

Q. Do they work in a car that's in storage?

A. Yes, calculate the volume of the vehicle and order the appropriate quantity.

Q. How can I tell if it needs to be recharged?

A. The indicator will change color.

Q. How does Silica Gel differ from Desi Paks (Montmorillonite clay)?

A. A Desi Pak cannot be easily reactivated and therefore do not include indicator strips. Since Silica Gel can be reactivated, the strips will not only tell you when they've absorbed their maximum capacity, it will also tell you when it's time to recharge.

Q. What's the Military Spec for Hydrosorbent Dehumidifiers?

A. Mil Spec MIL-D-3464 Typed 1 & 11 and will absorb up to 20 percent of their weight in water vapor in 6 hours.
