Boeshield Rust Free FAQs
What can I use Boeshield Rust-Free for?
Boeshield Rust-Free is a versatile rust remover
that can be used on many different surfaces (i.e. steel, stainless steel, cast iron, fiberglass, chrome, tile, porcelain, aluminum, vinyl, cloth).
What should I avoid using Boeshield Rust-Free on?
Since Boeshield Rust-Free is acidic, you need to rinse it thoroughly off painted surfaces, neutralizing it with soap and water. Rust-Free can dull paint and plastics, so choose your rust remover accordingly. (Bullfrog Rust Remover is a milder rust remover) Do not use Rust-Free on guns or black oxide tools. Rust-Free can cause spotting on cast iron if applied directly, so instead spray it on a rag and wipe the surface with the dampened rag.
How do I use Boeshield Rust-Free?
Apply Rust-Free liberally to the surface. Let it stand for 30 to 60 seconds, letting it penetrate the rust, then wipe dry. For heavy rust on steel or cast iron, scrub with a non-steel abrasive pad. Rust-Free works best at about 70°F.
What is Boeshield Rust-Free made of?
Boeshield Rust-Free spray contains Phosphoric Acid, a very strong acid (pH of 1.75). For this reason, avoid contact with skin or eye. In the event of such contact, rinse thoroughly with water. If you ingest the Rust-Free spray, drink milk or milk of magnesia. Do not induce vomiting. Call a physician.

What should I use to restore rusted cast-iron power tools?
We recommend Boeshield
Rust-Free Spray to remove rust from cast iron. Very heavy rust may require multiple applications. Heavy rust is also remedied with an abrasive.

iron, so use accordingly.
Can Rust Free be used on aluminum?
If the aluminum itself is corroded, it should not be used. It may remove the outer anodizing and could attack the base metal as well. If the aluminum is not corroded, but instead has a rust stain from another source, you can pre-soak a rag with the solution and wipe off the rust stain. As always, doing a test spot is advised.
What is the shelf life for Boesheild Rust Free?
Boeshield Rust Free does not spoil and has an indefinite shelf life.
I was able to wipe most of the Rust Free off after removing my rust, but there was still a whitish residue on the parts afterwards. Will that interfere with priming and painting?
The white residue is an iron phosphate coating which is an excellent base for most paints. You should have no problem painting over it.
