CitriSurf® 2310 is a high quality blend of chemicals formulated for cleaning, rust removal and passivation of stainless steel products. It is provided in a high viscosity form for easy application on weld joints, vertical surfaces, and other large items or areas that cannot be conveniently dipped in a bath. CitriSurf 2310 is specifically designed to provide low cost and efficient removal of all rust and free iron from the surface of stainless steel and other metals, providing the highest chrome oxide levels possible.

Citrisurf 2310 is also available in 1-gallon and 5-gallon containers.

Shipping Weight 2.0 lbs.

Application Procedure: To assure best results, the parts to be treated should be thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, oils, and grease with an appropriate cleaning solution prior to treatment with CitriSurf 2310, although it is very good cleaner by itself if used properly. If thorough cleaning is not possible during use in the field, wipe the surface free of dirt and oils prior to application.

All equipment, mixers, applications or pumps should be clean and dry prior to use. Only containers constructed of polypropylene, polyethylene, or other acid resistant plastic and stainless steel should be used to hold or store this products.

Depending on the product being cleaned, passivated, or brightened, dilution of the CitriSurf 2310 with water at maximum 1 to 1 ratio volume may be advantageous or necessary to slow down the reaction rated or lower the viscosity. Time, temperature and concentration of the product should be tested prior to use in production. For more aggressive cleaning or rust removal, longer times, higher temperatures and higher concentrations are advantageous. Each application is different.

Prior to use, mix thoroughly by shaking or stirring. CitriSurf 2310 should be applied liberally to the surface to be treated with a sprayer, brush or roller. Coverage is approximately 50 square feet. Wait approximately 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the application, and then rinse the product from the surface completely. Repeat process if needed to obtain desired results. Difficult rust or corrosion must be tested to determine the exact best conditions for removal. If heavy rust needs to be removed, Norton Bear-Tex Pads; or other non iron containing abrasive pads may be helpful.

Note: CitriSurf 2310 must remain moist during the treatment period. When using CitriSurf 2310 in direct sunlight or other hot environments, it may be necessary to periodically sprinkle the surface lightly with water to keep the CitriSurf 2310 from drying. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry completely in air immediately. Drying can be accelerated by use of a hot air oven or other drying medium such as an air blower (hair dryer) to attain a clean, dry surface prior to post treatment or packaging.

Although CitriSurf products will not harm most metal appliances or surfaces, and will enhance the brightness when used as directed, test a small area before full application.

CitriSurf may cause discoloration on some stainless steel grills and home appliances. Testing on a small area prior to full application is important.

Q. What is the difference between Citrisurf 2210 and Citrisurf 2310?

A. Both passivate stainless steel. The Citrisurf 2310 also contains a rust remover.

Q. Are there any surfaces that CitriSurf is NOT compatible with?

A. CitriSurf will cause damage to the surfaces of concrete, carbon steel, zinc, and galvanized steel. Avoid exposure of these materials to CitriSurf and rinse immediately if there is an inadvertent spill onto these materials. CitriSurf can be used to clean carbon steel surfaces if care is taken to avoid overexposure, we recommend extra dilution and room temperature operation. PVC pipe and fittings made from copper, brass, or bronze are not recommended for long term use with CitriSurf.

Q. Are CitriSurf products safe to use on food equipment, do they leave a coating or residue?

A. CitriSurf may be used for these applications. When properly rinsed, no CitriSurf remains on the surface. The protective passive layer is formed from the metal itself.

Q. Will CitriSurf damage the surface of the stainless steel?

A. Unlike nitric acid based passivation, CitriSurf does not etch stainless steel and will not change the surface finish.

Q. I was using bleach and splashed some onto my stainless steel refrigerator. At the time I didn’t think too much about it and just wiped it off. A couple of days later my refrigerator has rust all over the bottom. What is the best way for me to try to correct this issue?

A. Use CitriSurf 77 Plus to remove the rust and repassivate the affected area to help prevent the corrosion from returning.

Q. We have a Viking range with small rust blemishes and some discoloring. We live at the beach in Southern California and it looks like it may be from saltwater vapor damage. The stove is not very old and doesn’t get much use. What product would be best for our stove? Does it require scouring? How would you apply the product?

A. CitriSurf 77 Plus should be able to take care of your stove's corrosion. You simply spray the product onto the affect area, wait 20 minutes, and rinse it off. You may do some light scouring with a nonabrasive cleaning pad such as Norton’s Bear-Tex pads to help it along if you wish. Do NOT use a metal containing scouring pad as this will only create potential rust and corrosion.

Q. What is stainless steel passivation?

A. Read our article on Stainless Steel Passivation.

Q. Are CitriSurf products USDA approved?

A. The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service has eliminated the requirement for prior approval of nonfood compounds for use in food processing plants. They now only require the product to be safe and effective under the conditions of use. This allows CitriSurf products to be used in food processing plants, saving money and improving safety. The USDA documentation on the requirement change can be found on their website.

Q. I have a set of 1820's antique brass andirons with lots of build up. What can you suggest that won't harm them?

A. Our CitriSurf 77 works very well on brass beds, we are told (see customer testimonial), and so it probably will do a good job on the brass andirons. We have no personal experience with brass, although some customers use our products on brass and bronze parts in industrial settings. We have sold quite a few bottles to people like yourself who have read the postings online of people who have used CitriSurf and had good results. There are many coatings placed over newer brass fixtures, we don’t believe that CitriSurf 77 will work on these types of materials.

Q. I have a stainless steel railing outside. What is the best product to protect and clean it so it doesn’t rust in time?

A. If you do not live near a coastline you're probably safe. If you do live near the coast, the salt air is a bad environment for stainless. One of the best things you can do is rinse it down with fresh water and SaltAway periodically to remove any salt. If you ever start to see some discoloration on the steel ("tea staining" corrosion), you should get some of our product CitriSurf 2310, which is very safe and easy to use and will take off the corrosion and fully repassivate the surface to forestall the return of that corrosion for as long as possible.

Q. Will 2310 remove weld discoloration on stainless steel?

A. While 2310 is recommended for passivating stainless steel after welding, it does not remove the cosmetic discoloration that welding can leave.
